Tania Le Marinel

Fused glass artist, Tania Le Marinel, fell in love with glass as a young child, starting a much-loved collection of benkers (marbles) made by a local glass factory in Sunderland. Over the years Tania has visited glass collections all over the world and is particularly inspired by glass artists such as Tiffany, Lalique, Chihuly and, more recently, Jack Storms. Trained at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, Tania continues the tradition of local glass-making by creating one-off, unique glass art pieces which reflect the natural surroundings and ocean near her home.

Sunderland has been the home of glass-making for over 1,000 years. In AD674, the Venerable Bede described artists from Gaul crossing the North Sea to make windows for a newly built church in Sunderland (St. Peters) which still stands today, while the Corning Glass Works in Sunderland was well-known for exporting Pyrex glass around the world until as recently as 2007. Tania is proud to continue this local tradition of glassmaking – she loves to create one-off glass art in her glass workshop and studio while listening to Classic FM (sometimes Planet Rock, depending on whether the glass is behaving itself or not), drinking fresh coffee and being closely supervised by her four-legged friend, Tasha.

This site is still under development but if you have any questions or would like to arrange one-to-one glass making sessions please use the contact form below or you can use the link above to send me an email.
